Mattingly,
Kate. “College Bound” Pointe Magazine
Vol. 7 (Oct/Nov 2007): pg60-61. Print. 26 Feb. 2015.
Mattingly proves in this article
that higher education can help the dancer see a different side of dance. The
author uses professors from different schools to show the difference in their
dance department but also to show the similarity that getting a college degree
is the best choice. This source has many examples which helps prove my point of
getting a degree in dance.
Rivers
interviews five different professional dancers who either earned a degree in
dance or went straight to professionalism out of high school. Each dancer has a
different story as to why they did what they did to get where they are today.
Some dancers went professional out of high school so that would help with my
opposing point and others went to college to get a degree and got into
professional companies.
In this article Rivers interviews
dancer Kathryn Van Yahres who was unsure if she wanted to go to college but she
definitely knew she wanted to become professional. While talking to Van Yahres
they break down the six myths of dancing in college. With these six myths I
will relate them to my own experience as a freshman dance major and also break
them down to prove that dancing in college is the best choice.
Zar,
Rachel. “So You Think You Can Get Into College.” Dance Spirit Magazine (Sept. 2010). Web. 26 Feb. 2015
Zar interviews Barton Cowperthwaite,
a graduate of Denver
School of the Arts, about
auditioning for colleges. The two go through what auditions are like to prepare
the readers about their futures. Each school has a different audition and
requires different items to be brought/offered from the auditionee. With this
information I will explain the different types of auditions and use personal
experience of auditions that I have attended in my life.
